Well Hello There

Welcome to Beyond The Grommets: the wonders, wanders and what-nots from The Gift Wrap Company Design Studio. Catchy huh?! We are a diverse group of six cheeky young ladies who design all the products found in The Gift Wrap Company’s range (lovingly referred to here on out as TGWC, I hope you can appreciate the short and sweet!).

Referred around the company as “The Boston Studio” in actuality we are not in Boston proper but rather about 40 miles west in a little town called Northborough. Day in and day out we work together (and quite well I happily report) to keep the product line fresh, be innovative and most importantly to create fun designs you all will love to see adorning our products.

So please check in and enjoy our ramblings while we attempt to inspire, educate and maybe even enlighten about the little bits and bites that happen
beyond the grommets.

Something Old…

I must admit that I have developed an unhealthy obsession with vintage suitcases. It all started when I received a shower gift perfectly packaged in a retro makeup case. (thank you to the Petersen sisters for sparking my imagination, you know that always means trouble!)

Each bottle has been designated to be opened at a special occasion in our life, i.e. Champagne for “First Anniversary”, Cabernet for “First Night in New House”,  even Sparkling Cider for “First Baby”. What a cute idea! The makeup case still has a working lock and the combination is 1-4-3. (for those of you who did not sport pagers in the late 90′s, 143 was code for “I love you”… how perfect!)

Can't Contain OUR Enthusiasm

Pattern Candles is getting Larry'd Away!

Did anyone happen to catch our Patterned Candles gift wrap make it’s TV debute on a recent episode of HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiam?  Larry David himself hand selected this design. Ok well, we don’t know that but we like to think one of our fave funny guys would do us the honor. That would be “pretty pretty pretty” exciting!

We are big fans of the show here so this just makes us LOL…. LOL LARRY LOL! :-)

WHAT NOT WEDNESDAYS: BFF's 4-EVA!

left: inspiration of cool girl with awesome bracelets. right: my cool wrist!

So I have been seeing adult versions of these awesome friendship bracelets all over the web lately, and kept thinking – hey! I can totally make those! I spent many many hours at girl scout camp braceleting away instead of playing games on a field (I’m sure my camp counselors loved me!) and it turns out doing this years later is just like riding a bike, you never forget.  I thought I would share a mini tutorial for those who would like to rock these bracelets too or give them to your own BFFs.  Here we go!

Wednesday What-Not: Hello Yellow

pantone

I will admit I have taken a liking to this mustard yellow color which is coming on so strong for F/W 11. When it first was presented in the trend reports I cringed, however over this past several months I have warmed up to and have come to appreciate the retro sophistication it brings. This shade pairs well with deep jewel tones and soft pastels alike and is especially cozy when canoodling with steel greys.

Wicked good gift wrappin'

My very special little friend Jack recently had his very special 5th birthday. Being the good little Beantown rugrat that he is, he opted for a Bruins Party this year. So out came the black and gold, complete with a mini Stanley Cup replica.

and the crowd goes wild.... Jack's 5

Chihuly at the MFA

Chihuly, through the looking glass

The first time I saw Dale Chihuly’s work was in Las Vegas at the Bellagio a few years ago with my husband and that gorgeous lobby has forever left an impression with me. It was such a treat to see his work at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston where we were able to experience his stunning glass sculptures with some out-of-town guests back in July. I would venture to say that this was a definite highlight during their busy stay. Here are some photos I snapped, prepare to be blown away: ;)

Wednesday What-Nots : Fall In Love

I am just fascinated with Fall! Up until last year, I had never experienced a proper New England Fall. I grew up in tropical climates most of my life, so I didn’t get to see the leaves change, or go apple picking, or bundle up to the crisp autumn temperatures.

A collection of my favorite fall items.
