Well Hello There

Welcome to Beyond The Grommets: the wonders, wanders and what-nots from The Gift Wrap Company Design Studio. Catchy huh?! We are a diverse group of six cheeky young ladies who design all the products found in The Gift Wrap Company’s range (lovingly referred to here on out as TGWC, I hope you can appreciate the short and sweet!).

Referred around the company as “The Boston Studio” in actuality we are not in Boston proper but rather about 40 miles west in a little town called Northborough. Day in and day out we work together (and quite well I happily report) to keep the product line fresh, be innovative and most importantly to create fun designs you all will love to see adorning our products.

So please check in and enjoy our ramblings while we attempt to inspire, educate and maybe even enlighten about the little bits and bites that happen
beyond the grommets.

The not so many adventures in wallpapering

My unmade bed with empty walls.

Happy Friday Everyone! As I wrote in my little bio, I said I would share pics of my room once I wallpapered it.  Well, turns out wallpapering is HARD! How did I not know this? For some reason I thought I could just slap it up there and be done….not so much.  You have to make sure its “plumb” to your wall and all sorts of technical things that I was not prepared to tackle, but boy did I try! I borrowed my dad’s level and drew my “plumb” line and even managed to put up one panel as you can see in the “middle” pic.  The wallpaper I bought was pre-pasted so all I had to do was soak the back side and stick it up, but my poor little panel was SO wrinkled! And on top of that after I cut a few more panels I realized I did not have enough wallpaper – ugh! I decided to take a time out and rethink things.

My sad single panel.

During my time out, I had a centipede incident that my co-workers are well aware of! I found the nasty creature on my ceiling above my bed one night in the corner and it spurred me into action.  I decided to rearrange my room to get rid of the bad bug karma and thought of a new way to use my wallpaper.  I moved my bed so that it was no longer in the corner and wanted the wallpaper and bed to be my focal point.  I used my wrapping skills and wrapped the wallpaper around large boards I had and after a few trial and errors managed to hang them mostly centered above my bed!!

Yay! My new room!

What do you think?!  There is a window to the right of my bed and I need help to find a curtain, any suggestions? Should I go with more pattern or stick to solid?  Have a great weekend everyone!!

As a designer here at The Gift Wrap Company, I love a good repeat! When I'm not creating brightly colored designs at work, you'll find me shopping, I have a slight obsession with clothes. I recently moved and have decided to wallpaper my room, I'll post pictures of it when it's done, I have never wallpapered before so it will be an adventure! I love all things chocolate and coffee and have a habit of bringing in goodies to share at work. I have also recently become interested in hot yoga and took some classes with Jamie and Sarah, very sweaty but really relaxing! On the weekends during the summer, I try to make it to the beach on Cape Cod as much as possible to make up for all the cold weather and snow during the winter here in New England. And one last thing...GO SOX!

Julie, I love your new headboard! I wish I had jumped on your blog last week and seen this idea. I bought tea towels over the weekend to use over panels to put up in my room… wall paper would’ve been a better idea.
