Well Hello There

Welcome to Beyond The Grommets: the wonders, wanders and what-nots from The Gift Wrap Company Design Studio. Catchy huh?! We are a diverse group of six cheeky young ladies who design all the products found in The Gift Wrap Company’s range (lovingly referred to here on out as TGWC, I hope you can appreciate the short and sweet!).

Referred around the company as “The Boston Studio” in actuality we are not in Boston proper but rather about 40 miles west in a little town called Northborough. Day in and day out we work together (and quite well I happily report) to keep the product line fresh, be innovative and most importantly to create fun designs you all will love to see adorning our products.

So please check in and enjoy our ramblings while we attempt to inspire, educate and maybe even enlighten about the little bits and bites that happen
beyond the grommets.

Time to talk trends!

It’s that time again…. time to plan our the next catalog release. 2013 is just around the corner… (well we hope-we do have that Mayan end of the world thing to get through first!)  Since we work so far ahead, at this point our 2012 release is old news to us despite it only being a few months old. Here in the studio we have been busy compiling trend research and creating new designs for next year.

I thought I would share a little bit on how we gather our info and create our trend presentations.

Compiling the trend info is our favorite part of the process. We sift through many reports and predictions and determine which future trends are the most applicable to us. The 2013 predictions are especially interesting and quickly inspired the studio.  We create several visuals to help us tell the story. Here is a fun visual Julie made to share her findings. This “dress” is adorned with a collage of pictures and detailing of important highlights from the fashion runways.

Each designer created their own trend presentation and shared their inspirations with the team.

Once we decided on the 6 trend stories we wanted to focus on we put together some visual reference boards together. These consisted of magazine clippings and online finding that illustrated the overall idea we wanted to convey. Lastly, 6 additional trend boards are made. Aimee worked really hard to make these boards look really great and give us presentation tools we can be proud of.

And here they are… the end result, the 6 themes that inspired our 2013 line! Enjoy!

Stay tuned to see how all this inspiration fueled some seriously great designs to be release for 2013! We promise not to disapoint!

I love all things fuchsia. PMS 226 is the best color in the whole world. I seriously contemplate painting my living room in it every day- ok maybe just one wall! I am hopelessly in love with my 10 year old yellow lab Tyler whom is hopelessly in love with a big red Kong filled with peanut butter (and the pursuit of getting said Kong refilled by me). In my free time I like to get my hands in the dirt and grown stuff (plants, flowers, veggies..), clean my house (odd I know), volunteer at a local dog rescue, take hikes with Tyler and fantasize that I had more free time to do more fun stuff! If I could be anywhere, I would be on a beach, sitting in the sand with my eyes closed just listening to sound of the waves hitting the shore... Total peace!
