Well Hello There

Welcome to Beyond The Grommets: the wonders, wanders and what-nots from The Gift Wrap Company Design Studio. Catchy huh?! We are a diverse group of six cheeky young ladies who design all the products found in The Gift Wrap Company’s range (lovingly referred to here on out as TGWC, I hope you can appreciate the short and sweet!).

Referred around the company as “The Boston Studio” in actuality we are not in Boston proper but rather about 40 miles west in a little town called Northborough. Day in and day out we work together (and quite well I happily report) to keep the product line fresh, be innovative and most importantly to create fun designs you all will love to see adorning our products.

So please check in and enjoy our ramblings while we attempt to inspire, educate and maybe even enlighten about the little bits and bites that happen
beyond the grommets.

If you like it then you shoulda put a wreath on it

This holiday season, how do you decorate your domicile with a wreath that stands out from the crowd? With PAPER of course! Anyone can hang a garland of greenery on the front door, but to really accentuate your entrance, try one of these fun DIY ideas…all you need is some spare giftwrap and a little imagination. (and maybe a styrofoam wreath form, some hot glue, you know, the usual supplies…)

Nothing to wear for New Years?

What? Last minute invite to glitz & glam NYE party thrown by the Swankies and your LBD has seen every event you have gone to for the last 10 years….

Well time to get creative ladies! Our friends at Pierre Belvedere  have provided a little inspiration for you. With a little ribbon and a hand full of bows (from TGWC of course)  you can wow the crowd and get a few sneak peeks from Santa for yourself!

stairway to heavenly!

I have a whole lot of DIY projects on my back burners. Actually I don’t think there are really any front burners for me, just a lot of ideas running around my head that I am gonna do when I get some free time…Got to cut back on the HGTV!

However, today I finally accomplished one task. With a few hours, some pre-pasted wallpaper and a little bit of patience I have turned my front staircase from drab to fab. Ahh I guess this opens up a burner for another dream in progress!

I had big dreams of hand painting this staircase, but since that has been stewing for seven years now and yet to become a reality, I finally gave in and found a fun wall paper boarder from wallpops. These great boarders are easy to use and removable so there is no huge commit for phobes like me! And I can’t get over what a huge difference it makes to the whole entry of my house. Now I just need to decide what color to pain that banister… Guess I just filled empty burner!

handmade halloween

a kitty-witch

I was out last weekend in a cute craft store called Farmstead in Warren, RI. And I couldn’t help snapping some pics of these adorable handmade decorations.

more cute spooky friends!

i love the sweater!

I love that so much was handmade, and one of a kind, the place smelled of cinnamon and spice -and they were having an open house with cider, beer, wine and goodies!

Everywhere you looked were cute displays like this one.

When you are done shopping they wrap your package up in a sweet bag with the tissue fluffed up just right. What more could you ask for?

I am definitely feeling the halloween spirit now. Thanks Farmstead!

it's almost too cute to open!

Let There Be Light!

Our back room here at the studio serves as a warehouse/photo studio/prop room/inventory storage/spray booth/loading dock…etc etc. Needless to say we -especially me- spend a lot of time out there for various reasons, and I am happy to report that we now have a wonderful new lighting situation out there! It’s not “pretty” by any stretch of the imagination, but it is bright, and it is so much more pleasant to be around!

This vast improvement got me thinking about lighting and how important it is to my happiness in general. I strongly believe that light effects behavior and mood, and that lighting upgrades can totally boost good vibes and create a sense of well being. If you want to illuminate your life this weekend, here’s some inspiration!

Has anyone seen my measuring tape?

I hope that's not lead paint...

local art festival

I recently had the pleasure of “dragging” my family to a local art festival, http://festivalfete.com/.

It was such a great day out, and this place was jam packed with talented artists, and I was drooling over everything as usual…

I loved that they had entertainment for the kids too, otherwise this would never have happened at all for me! They had awesome food and drinks, and a live band.

Here is my son putting on a brave face with the tall man:

One of my favorite booths here was purplebeanbindery.com, they had the most amazing handmade cloth journals

another great booth was from Kristen Cole at “Its sew you”, I obviously did not get enough pictures of all her cute things so you will have to trust me on this and go to her etsy site: itssewyou8.etsy.com

these acrylic painting/collages were amazing as well, the artist is Samantha Pidel, and her site is beautifullittlethings.com

(also I love how they are displayed on old doors, brilliant!)

These are my precious children about the make some crazy hats at the “recycled” hat making station, the hats came out adorable, but then were left behind at the dance recital we went to afterwards…so sad we can’t keep nice things

And then here are some more random pics of things I really really wanted, in no particular order, OK, maybe the mermaid first
