Well Hello There

Welcome to Beyond The Grommets: the wonders, wanders and what-nots from The Gift Wrap Company Design Studio. Catchy huh?! We are a diverse group of six cheeky young ladies who design all the products found in The Gift Wrap Company’s range (lovingly referred to here on out as TGWC, I hope you can appreciate the short and sweet!).

Referred around the company as “The Boston Studio” in actuality we are not in Boston proper but rather about 40 miles west in a little town called Northborough. Day in and day out we work together (and quite well I happily report) to keep the product line fresh, be innovative and most importantly to create fun designs you all will love to see adorning our products.

So please check in and enjoy our ramblings while we attempt to inspire, educate and maybe even enlighten about the little bits and bites that happen
beyond the grommets.

Happy New Year…ALREADY!

Not sure where the time goes these days but there is never enough! So I apologize this post has been a long time coming.

We are well underway into the planning of our 2014 line! (OMG weren’t we just partying like it was 1999?)

Well we have another terrific line in store. New designs.New partnerships. New products! (HOLLA)

The trends for 2014 are fun, funky and fresh! Here is a peek at our trend boards. Enjoy!

All Right Stop, Collaborate & Listen! A Sneak Peek

highly recommended book!

Coffee table books are one of my favorite go-tos for gifts, they can be enjoyed for years on end and add some style to your home.  For my friend Emily’s birthday I wanted to get something that was an expression of her style.  She loves graphic prints and bold colors and probably owns more striped things than anyone I know!  The Kate Spade, Things We Love, book came recommended to me because of all the beautiful pictures and glamourous gilded edge pages.  This book looks good from all angles!

When I was sneaking a peek at the pages before I wrapped it up, I recognized a familiar pattern!  Last season Kate Spade partnered with Florence Broadhurst to create all sorts of fun bags, wallets and accessories and this season The Gift Wrap Company is partnering up! So exciting!! This partnership is bringing the lovely patterns from Florence Broadhurst to the world of paper products to create bold and beautiful wraps, bags and other social stationary goodies!  The full collection is going to be released later this spring so keep your eyes open!

Golden Globes 2013

So, not sure if everyone saw the Golden Globe Awards last night, I actually watched the New England Patriots game of course (go Pats!!!), but I did record the Golden Globes and can’t wait to see who wore what…

From what I have seen so far, here are a few trends that really struck me right away…

Ladies in Red

Ah, so the glamorous goodness known as “award season” kicked off last night at the Golden Globes. They called it “California Cold” at 50 degrees, here in Boston it was also 50 degrees but we cheered and pulled out the swimsuits! Those left coat softies!

So as my favorite fashion critics over at E! lined the red carpet and asked the age old question “who are you wearing” I sat expecting to see color. Bold, vivid, on trend, color, but I was very disappointed. To my dismay the celebs walked the walk in traditional black, navy, and of course a peppering of dare devils who shined in unique bright colors, they are celebs after all! But all in all the dresses were quite tame and under whelming. Come on ladies! WTF!!!!! Don’t you know we live the luxe life through you? Step it up! I expect to see a lot more flash as this season progresses.

Well, the red carpet did manage to run red as some of the hottest celebs chose various shades of scarlett to spotlight their evening. Proving once again this hot hue is forever tried and true!

I just had to include this last pict, because I think little Lukey rocked this event!

I can’t wait to hear what the Fashion Police have to say about this event… Joan???

Gotta Go Green!

Happy New Year!

It is time to celebrate all that is new! Our new 2013 range has been released- woohoo- now that is cause for celebration,  and we have begun to give some thought to our next new 2014 release.

Pantone has recently announced their color of 2013 and I have to admit this is one newbie which I am struggling to raise the roof for. The color of the year award has gone to Emerald Green which is not my favorite color in the spectrum.

However after spending some time collecting emerald inspired images I am coming around a bit and growing a little fond of this gifted green. Follow our Trending:Emerald  board on Pinterest to get in touch with your own green side!

Why did Pantone choose Emerald as their color of the year? Check out their explanation on their design blog.

More on trends…

So yesterday I shared our Christmas 2013 trend boards with you and ironically I also received a trend board email blast from Bright Group International, a great art licensing agency I have had the pleasure of working with this year. So I thought I would share Brights trend boards here as well as I think they are pretty great and worth the share.

Christmas is coming……in 2013!

There is one very sick and twisted reality to working here ( ok a few but right now I am talking just this one) we plan for Christmas 18 months early. Before Christmas has even arrived in all it’s winter fun, Team TGWC has already finalized our Christmas range for the following year. So that is where we are today. We have just finished the design selection process and will now begin figuring out all the extra bits and bobs to apply these designs to.

So I thought I would share our trend boards with you and show where all the inspiration for the designs we will feature a year from now came from….enjoy!

Winter whites with accents of aged golds and pewter… so pretty!

local art festival

I recently had the pleasure of “dragging” my family to a local art festival, http://festivalfete.com/.

It was such a great day out, and this place was jam packed with talented artists, and I was drooling over everything as usual…

I loved that they had entertainment for the kids too, otherwise this would never have happened at all for me! They had awesome food and drinks, and a live band.

Here is my son putting on a brave face with the tall man:

One of my favorite booths here was purplebeanbindery.com, they had the most amazing handmade cloth journals

another great booth was from Kristen Cole at “Its sew you”, I obviously did not get enough pictures of all her cute things so you will have to trust me on this and go to her etsy site: itssewyou8.etsy.com

these acrylic painting/collages were amazing as well, the artist is Samantha Pidel, and her site is beautifullittlethings.com

(also I love how they are displayed on old doors, brilliant!)

These are my precious children about the make some crazy hats at the “recycled” hat making station, the hats came out adorable, but then were left behind at the dance recital we went to afterwards…so sad we can’t keep nice things

And then here are some more random pics of things I really really wanted, in no particular order, OK, maybe the mermaid first

The Gift Wrap Company booth at NYSS – or 1000 things to do with wrapping paper

I can hardly believe the Stationery Show is over! It reminds me of all the build up and prep before the holidays, and then it seems like it’s over in a flash. I guess as long as the flash is bright and beautiful and amazing while it lasts then it was all worth it, and i feel like that is exactly what we had in New York this week.

Pictures really don’t do it justice because there isn’t a camera big enough to take it all in; the attention to detail, the creative use of anything and everything, and mixing of designs, colors, real and handmade props. It was something to see.

Here are a few shots of some of the amazing outer windows.

It was so much fun putting this all together, seeing it come to life. We have an amazing line of products, and a great team of people and I was a happy camper to be a part of it!  (excuse me -feeling a little choked up now…) Enjoy the pics, more to follow!

Time to talk trends!

It’s that time again…. time to plan our the next catalog release. 2013 is just around the corner… (well we hope-we do have that Mayan end of the world thing to get through first!)  Since we work so far ahead, at this point our 2012 release is old news to us despite it only being a few months old. Here in the studio we have been busy compiling trend research and creating new designs for next year.

I thought I would share a little bit on how we gather our info and create our trend presentations.
