BONJOUR! My days in Paris-day one: Le Marche
I have arrived in Paris! Very excited to attend the Maison & Objet show at
Paris Nord Villepinte.
Despite the winter snow finally deciding to show up on the very day I was trying to catch my flight out all managed to go on schedule and off I went over the Atlantic.
Overnight flights to Europe usually mean early morning arrivals which is not fun. So after landing, I found my hotel which of course was not able to give me a room yet, left my bags and decided to hit the antiques markets (Marche to those love a little extra oolala). I have always seen these great markets in the magazines and on TV so was psyched to see them first hand. Despite being off season and bone chilling cold (damn widget lied AGAIN) there was much fun to be seen.
Hottest trend in French antiques (wait that sounds weird!) INDUSTRIAL CHIC: retro metal chairs (many causing grammar school flashbacks) and buckets and aluminum coolness of all shapes and forms are given a distressed makeover- or is that just called time- and displayed with the highest hipness!
Another eye-catching (to me) and also expected theme among the stalls in the marche was classic French decor. The French provincial, but more beloved by me, the French country style. Aged wooden benches, shutters, linens, wooden doors and fixings... oh so simple and oh so pretty... oh so French!
Basically you can find just about anything at the marche, even things you didn't know you ever wanted.....
Want to see for yourself? I highly recommend it. Take the Metro to Porte de Clingnancourt and follow sign to Les Puces. It's a maze of markets along little side streets so plan to get a bit lost. Also plan to be aware of pick pockets and seedy types looking for shoppers engrossed in cool finds! They are looking for you- so watch for them!
Check back tomorrow for a recap on the show.... spoiler.... marche trends=show trends... I am sensing a theme here in Paris! Tres Cool! :0)
